Election Day is now behind us, results are in, and change is definitely in the air.

Republicans appear to be victorious in all three statewide races (the first time since 2009), and will also regain control of the House of Delegates after losing their previous majority in 2017.

Two important reminders, before getting into some of the data, graphics, and curated news coverage:

Absentee ballots (postmarked on or before Election Day) will be accepted and counted until this  Friday, November 5th at noon.

All results are unofficial, until certified on Monday, November 15th.

And a reminder that our 2021 Elections Hub is still live, with all updated information and individual race results currently available.

Few snags for Election Day voting amid scrutiny on process

ATLANTA (AP) — After a year of dealing with false claims and death threats, election officials on Tuesday delivered a relatively smooth Election Day.

There were just scattered reports of voting or equipment problems, typical for Election Day: a technical problem delaying a count of early ballots, a power outage, a polling place opening late. It was too soon to gauge the effects of new voting restrictions in place in a few states.
